Sample Thank You Letter

This free sample thank you letter demonstrates confidence and gratitude, and includes something the writer forgot to mention during the interview.

You may download, personalize and otherwise edit this free sample thank you letter to send to your interviewers after job interviews, or just refer to it as an example to write some of your own. It's an RTF file format, which is compatible with most word processors (such as Microsoft® Word) and safe to download.

But first, please read the Important notice below, which includes the download link.

Because of differences in the way that Web browsers and word processors display pages, the sample thank you letter format displayed below differs slightly from the download version created in a word processor.

For a plain-text (ASCII) version, just copy the text of the thank you letter sample from your screen and then paste it into a word processor or text editor, such as Windows® Notepad. You might lose some formatting in copying, but it'll be easy to fix.

This sample thank you letter format is in full-block, business-letter style. But when emailing thank you letters, they don't necessarily need to be quite as formally formatted.

For example, you could delete the letterhead, date and recipient's address if you wish, because an email will automatically include informal equivalents. It's a good idea to keep at least the salutation (Dear...) and complimentary close (Sincerely...), but you can change them to your preference.

Dear [Interviewer's name]:

Thank you for taking time out of your busy day to interview me for the [job title] position.  I enjoyed meeting you and the other members of your team.  I am excited about the chance to work with such a great team.

Because I am a self-starter by nature and a team player too, I like that you encourage individual team members to take ownership of their projects, but each can still count on the support of other team members.  As I mentioned earlier today, I think it's the best of both worlds.

Judging by the matters we discussed, I believe that my qualifications are an excellent fit, particularly my [specific education, experience, skills, etc.].  The position is exactly what I'm looking for and I'm confident that I can be a significant contributor to the success of [company or department name].  I sincerely hope that you agree.

I'd like to add that I have a Web-based portfolio, where you may view recent samples of my work.  The address is [http://].

Thanks again for interviewing me.  If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.  The best way to reach me is by calling my cell phone at [area code, number].

I look forward to hearing from you again.

Sincerely,
