You may download, personalize and otherwise modify this free resignation letter
template for personal use or just use it as an example to write one of your own
from scratch. It's an RTF file, which is compatible with most word processors
(such as Microsoft® Word) and safe to download.
But first, please read the Important notice below. It includes
the download link.
Although this resignation letter template adheres to "standards" on
the Web, it's not set in concrete. It's just to give you ideas about what to
write in yours, while providing the format to make it easier for you.
Because of differences in the way that Web browsers and word processors display
pages, the format of the resignation letter template displayed below differs
slightly from the download version.
If you copy and paste this resignation letter template from your screen instead
of downloading it, the format might not stay intact.
The resignation letter template format is in full-block, business-letter style.
But when emailing your resignation letter, it doesn't necessarily need to be
quite as formally formatted.
For example, you could delete the letterhead, date and recipient's address if
you want, because an email will automatically include informal equivalents. It's
a good idea to keep at least the salutation (Dear...) and complimentary
close (Sincerely...), but you can change them to your preference.

Dear [Recipient's name]:
[When modifying this resignation letter template, start by writing what
it is that you're resigning (such as your job title) and the date that
you anticipate will be your last day of work.]
[Optional: Include additional information here, such as what you're willing
to do to make your resignation smoother for your employer. But, avoid making
promises you can't keep.]
[Optional: Wrap it up by saying thank you in some way, such as for the
opportunities that the recipient or the company provided.]
[Note: If you go over three paragraphs of just a few sentences each, reconsider
what you've written. Resist blowing off steam in your resignation letter
or using it as a soapbox on which to stand for criticizing the company.
Remember, your employer will likely file your resignation letter as potential
evidence, in case you later bring legal action against the employer. So,
it's a good idea to keep it simple.]
Sincerely,
